"Swaying Castle"

"There!" exclaimed Isaac as he finished pounding a nail. "This is the best treehouse I've ever seen! When it's really windy like this, you can feel the whole treehouse move. It's like being in a swaying castle!" Bryce nodded in agreement. "Let's ask if we can sleep out here tonight," Isaac suggested.

"I know my dad won't let me," said Bryce. "He says he has to be sure it's safe before we use it, but I know he won't have time to check it out today."

"My dad said the same thing," Isaac admitted. "Hey! I know! Let's each ask our parents for permission to spend the night together. They'll think we're at each other's houses, but we'll really be sleeping in the tree house."

"Well . . . I don't know." Bryce sounded doubtful, but he finally agreed to try it.

Their plan worked, but in the middle of the night, a loud crack of thunder and the sound of rain woke the boys. "I don't like it up here in this storm!" exclaimed Bryce. "Do you think this tree house will hold up okay?"

"Sure!" Isaac sounded more confident than he felt. "Hey!" he yelled a minute later. "I'm getting wet! The roof is leaking. Let's go to my house."

The storm had awakened Isaac's parents, too, and they were very surprised when the boys stumbled into the kitchen. "What happened? Is something wrong at your home, Bryce?" asked Isaac's father.

Isaac spoke quickly. "No," he said, "but we . . . ah . . . we were sleeping in the tree house, Dad."

"The tree house?" asked Mom. "Did Bryce's parents say you could do that? You asked if you could stay at his house overnight."

"Actually, I . . . I just asked if I could spend the night with Bryce," replied Isaac.

"I see," Dad said. "So your words were correct . . . but what about your intentions? You deceived us and lied with your actions, didn't you?"

With downcast eyes, the boys nodded. "We're sorry," mumbled Isaac.

"I'm thankful God protected you tonight, but that tree house will be off-limits until you show us that we can trust you," said Dad sternly.

"I know I'll be grounded, too," murmured Bryce, "and I know I deserve it."

"Me, too," admitted Isaac, "and I'm really sorry, Dad."

"So am I," added Bryce. As Dad sent them to bed, he could see that was true.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Can people count on you to be honest in actions as well as in words? Are you trustworthy? God hates lying and dishonesty. He is not pleased when your words are not backed up by your actions. He wants you to be truthful with Him and with others in the way you behave as well as in what you say.

TODAY'S KEY VERSE:

Those who deal truthfully are His (God's) delight. Proverbs 12:22

說謊言的嘴、為耶和華所憎惡.行事誠實的、為他所喜悅。

箴言 12:22
