A.消失音

1.       The words that we usually do not stress in a sentence are called function words. Function words are pronouns, articles, prepositions, conjunctions, auxiliary (helping) verbs, and the verb be.(我們在句子中通常不會強調讀的字稱為虛詞。虛詞是指代名詞、冠詞、介詞、連接詞、助動詞、和 be 動詞。)

What do you want for dinner? (do, you, for)

2.       We usually reduce the vowels in function words. Sometimes the vowel disappears completely.(我們通常會輕讀虛詞的母音。有時母音會完全消失。)

How about fish or chicken. ->How ‘bout fish ‘r chicken.

 July 1,1964, I lay in bed, waiting for the bees to show up, thinking of what Rosaleen has said when I told her about their nightly visitations.

At night I would lie in bed and watch the show, how bees squeezed through the cracks of my bedroom wall and flew circles around the room, making that propeller sound, a high-pitched zzzzzz that hummed along my skin. I watched their wings shining like bits of chrome in the dark and felt the longing build in my chest. The way those bees flew, not even looking for a flower, just flying for the feel of the wind, split my heart down its seam.

During the day I heard them tunneling through the walls of my bedroom, sounding like a radio tuned to static in the next room, and I imagined them in there turning the walls into honey-combs, with honey seeping out for me to taste.

Jordan went outside when he saw his friend Devin bouncing a ball in the driveway next door. "Hey, Devin!" called Jordan.

David held the bat steady. I have to get a hit, he thought. I just have to! If I get out, our team will lose the game and be disqualified from the tournament. The ball sailed toward David. He swung as hard as he could, but the ball bounced slowly toward the pitcher. A moment later, the game was over.

大衛穩穩握住球棒.想著:”我必須要打擊成功.一定要成功!假如我出局,我們球隊就會輸掉且喪失比賽資格”.球飛向大衛.他盡了全力揮棒,但球卻慢慢彈回到投手那裡。不久後,球賽結束。

 　（二）並已依法定程序提起訴訟；
